Separation of supply and clinical function

A supply pharmacy that is also contracted to provide the clinical pharmacy RMMR/QUM service must demonstrate:

  • The clinical service remains proactive and robust as depicted by those supply/clinical sites having a lower polypharmacy and antipsychotic QI Program ‘score’ than the national average.
  • The provision of the DAA packing service comes at no cost to the client facility or consumer.
  • Standards require that packed DAAs arriving from a 3rd party packing facility are checked by the actual pharmacist associated with the direct supply service to the facility.
  • Timely supply including same day delivery is accommodated and offered.
  • QCAA members provide a service that facilitates Quality Care by providing a rapid turn-around for medication changes.
  • A 7 day delivery schedule is available, including provision of after-hours support and emergency supply under reasonable pre-agreed circumstances.
  • The provision of Quality Care requires a 7 day supply service or systems that ensure new medication orders can be commenced as soon as possible.
  • The pharmacy’s roster enables a dedicated aged care pharmacist/resident ratio of no less than 1 / 1000.
  • The supply pharmacy is an active MAC member (with participation via a registered pharmacist).
  • Tenders, marketing and contract negotiations do not involve the offer or provision of inducements that do not pertain to the member’s actual pharmacy supply service.
